Happy New year everyone.I have made a few 2012 pieces to say farewell to 2012 and come muse me 2013so here we go

alter more...there is a button on my blog which takes you to Lesley 's 'The art of altering"...she is fabulous and I will be taking a lot of her tutorials this year.

Down at the bottom of my blog there are buttons to everything Wendy Vecchi and all things Tim Holtz..I cannot say enough about the incredible things I learn there not to mention the awesome people.

there is a button at the bottom of my blog..creative souls please check it out..I will be spending  time there as well.
Alpha stamps..wow..couldn't do it with out ranger inks and Alpha stamps!wonderful products talent artist like Laura Carson, Rhea and the famous Caroline and so many more.  I wish I could just sit and list everyone that means so much to me..and if you don't know them yet..you would..and, in time be fond of them as well.

There is Smeared Ink..oh yes. The dark world I play in with wonderful wonderful people.Talent oh my gosh..indescribable. Out of my comfort zone once but fear creates art..what we are afraid to learn we often are very good at..and there is always room to grow in the world of art.

In march I am taking tutorials under Traci Bautista..I will be posting more details soon on that.

I am also moving various parts of my blog to my main store blog www.lightofswans.com
and hope to add products and downloads and so much more there and also to my etsy.com store ...

my final post for smeared ink 12 days of creepmas i am on vacation !!!1

Well today is Saturday yea!!!!!The first day of my sons vacation and a break for me to:) :):) which i am extremely happy about.I have not had a break in three years here at my folks house and Stephen has not had a vacation in two years sooooo welcome to my post a day early for http://smearedandsmudged.ning.com/page/12-days-of-creepmas-2012
Yesterday i made over 22 Christmas cards which many of you will get late:) sorry. and I made LB's snowman ...I still have not embellished..partly because i would like to figure out what I want to embellish with and I have not had the time..here it is.

Thinking freddie should just move over or step down ..haha

so there is my snowman. I also wanted to share with you a picture of the many cards i made yesterday...

 and a big request....A
  wonderful friend of mine has a little granddaughter in the hospital..a newborn.she quit breathing and the doctors need to find out why.

Smeared ink 12days of creepmas blog hop

Today is simple for me. I am making regular Christmas cards and running out of time I might   add so this is a simple post.

Smeared Ink has a journalism group  which this year I must confess I have not been faithful too so..one of my new year resolutions is to focus more on journals.

This is the foundation of one I am working on right now and I need to add words to get it posted for this weeks forum. I am not that good with journals yet they are one of my favorites.

I am Susan S. and I am happy you stopped in.
My first piece is a wonderful art challenge given to us by Lori with  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EverythingWendyVecchi/
My piece is simple. I used studio 490 'Art by the Number LCS 005. A Tim tree die cut and numbers from Tim Holtz  grunge board digits and punctuation.I used barn door stain and distress ink tea dye,picket fence stain and white dabber.
I added a few pearl embellishments .
I hope you like it.

How do you like my tree topper?I love the Blossom Bucket pieces.

today I am sharing the gifts I made for Helen . It is my fault she does not have them yet, they were not mailed when I had wanted to mail them, but ,they are mailed and Helen I hope you like them.
The first ornament is for her son..yes we are like sisters here at smeared ink..We love each others children grown and small deeply so here it is.

 Helen is a fantastic lady and a incredibly talented artist. Please click onto her name on my side bar to view her blog.I will not spoil it for her...so sorry to say you too will have to wait until she takes a picture of it.It is a smeared ink image..and I will say no more

new smudgy antics challenge

Good Evening from West Texas.
It is time again for a new Smudgy Antics Challenge and the theme is colors.Please go to http://smudgyantics.blogspot.com/
for more details and please read the rules.

These are the colors you are to work with..again..please read the rules as to how many colors you are to chose and please look at the Dt pieces which I hope inspire you.

My piece was based off of  somerset studio autumn  2000,page 88 titled ' URN',
many different artist collaborated to exhibit their use of a stamp of a URN.
One was of a textured canvas displaying the urn three times.
I chose this form of media to work with .
I first took my manilla folders and glued three together and trimmed to a perfect 8x10.
I covered the manilla folder in gesso lightly letting it dry each time. I applied eight light coats creating a canvas effect.
I used sage green distress stain, tea dyed ink, and fired brick red accent in barn door, weathered wood which is a slate color picket fence and staz on jet black.
The stamp I chose was out of my new Smeared and Smudged ink set..the skeleton hands wreath.
I used a paper machae heart distressed in picket fence,sage, weathered  wood and fired brick..and made a act using sage and pencil khaki.
I continued two other points below the heart and folded in the continual sentiment stamping along with the wreath.

The tag was cut and stained in fired brick stamped with a unknown filler stamp I use for everything penciled in  gold into the leaves and two copy cat acts were placed onto the tag to continue the color flow.
There is my piece..attached to a package. i bound the four corners before attaching with twine and added black ribbon to the tag.
I hope this inspires you to read into your old favorite magazines and create your own interpretation of them..that is what art is about. your interpretation .

I am making photo pages for a album..so here is page one front and back. 
The stamp set is As Death. it has very classic images which is teaching me to work on more of a classic inking experience I think..any way here is the back to page one

I used four colors,
Tim holtz distress victorian velvet,weathered wood, I used picket fence stain and staz on jet black .The border on the second piece is from studio 490 'art by the number'.

Learning to layer

This is a quick post to show you my layering greeting card.

Layering is difficult for me and only because I have not done a lot of it...so practice makes perfect they say. of course I used a Wendy Vecchi stamp set..Art by the number LCs005
I ran the distress ink tye dye over the card and stamped the measurement large stamp from left to right  and then the border stamps on left and right bottom. At this point I use white gesso and pasted in some simple art"stamp" looking cut outs.

I brushed over the "peacock feathers" stain and dabbed a few places at random with barn door stain.

after adhering the cut out stamp picture images I am not sure where i got them..I gesso(ed) over that.anything with a red image I kept the gesso off. I then stamped with the flower from The set of stamps from studio 490

I penciled in red with my pencils from Ike the flower and leaves my wonderful PRISMACOLOR pencils  .

I sprayed some wonderful Dylusions mica spray in the right top corner and added a stamp the lady in the heart from Involke Arts. http://invokearts.com/
Then I stamped in the sentiment from the stamp set..and could not resist the numbers from my Tim holtz set.
